Mating receptivity mediated by endosymbiont interactions in a haplodiploid thrips species

Dataset

Description

1. First mating.xlsx
This dataset documents the mating behavioural traits of female Kelly's citrus thrips (Pezothrips kellyanus) and how these traits are influenced by interactions with endosymbionts (Cardinium, Wolbachia). Specifically, it examines the females' responses to males with different types of endosymbiont infections. The columns include:

Female (infection type): Infection status of the female.
1st Male (infection type): Infection status of the first male.
Time (set): Experimental sets (e.g., first day).
Time to first contact (Second): The time from release of a female into a mating arena (Petri dish) to her first contact with a first male, regardless of whether it leads to copulation or not.
Rejection (frequency): The number of times a female rejects mating attempts by any male until a first copulation occurs.
Resistance (frequency): The number of times a female bends her abdomen up or down to avoid copulation during the mating attempt that results in copulation.
Antennation and Stroking duration (Second): The time from when a female allows a male to mount until the V-shaped copulation occurs. Throughout this period, the male remains on top of the female, engaging in antennation of the females’ antenna and back of head, thorax and abdomen with his antenna, and stroking of the female's back with his mesothoracic legs in order to encourage the female to accept copulation.
Copulation (Second): The time from the start of the V- shaped copulation until male genitalia are separated from the female body
2. Remating.xlsx
This dataset captures the remating receptivity of female Kelly's citrus thrips (Pezothrips kellyanus) with different infection types (Cardinium-infected/uninfected) when paired with compatible or incompatible mates. The columns include:

Female (infection type): Indicates the infection status of the female (e.g., uninfected).
1st male (compatibility): Compatibility status of the first male.
2nd male (compatibility): Compatibility status of the second male.
Time (set): Experimental sets (e.g., first day).
Remating occurrence: Indicates if remating occurred (Yes/No).
