Description

The Kiteezi landfill is the only sanitary landfill in Uganda used for the disposal of all waste collected from Kampala city and nearby areas of Wakiso district. It is located13 km from Kampala city centre in the peri-urban Kiteezi, Nangabo subcounty, Wakiso district. The site is currently managed by Kampala Capital City Authourity (KCCA). This is the raw data for the waste quantities delivered at the Kiteezi landfill, recorded from April 2011 to December 2020 at the landfill. A record of whether the waste was delivered by either KCCA or private waste collector was also kept. Waste delivered by KCCA was further categorized according to the division of the city from which it had been collected. Starting January 2017, a record of the particular private company delivering the waste was also done. From April 2011 to September 2017, the monthly waste quantities are given, while daily waste quantities are given from October 2017 to December 2020. Data is attached as one MS Excel file and has also been split into two CSV files. Up until 2012, waste quantities were determined using a weighbridge over which the trucks delivering waste to the landfill drove before and after offloading the waste; the weight of the waste was calculated as the difference in the weight of the truck. After 2012, the weighbridge broke down and waste quantities were determined by estimations based on the truck types and their capacities. Before making estimations, calibration was done where all garbage trucks to deliver waste to the landfill were weighed on a standardized weighbridge when empty and when filled with waste as a baseline to determine the net weights of waste that can be carried by the trucks. This procedure for obtaining the net weight was done three times for each truck and the average net weight calculated. After that, each time a truck delivered waste at the landfill, the net weight determined in this procedure was recorded as the waste quantity.
