This achievement underscores the impact of our publications and strong collaborations with industry and international partners.

Likewise, our dedication to furthering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has played a significant role in our university securing first position globally in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

Researchers in the School of Nursing and Midwifery aim to advance research in nursing and midwifery that impacts the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities in Western Sydney and beyond. Our research efforts are focused on high quality, high impact research achieved through productive, engaged research partnerships and the provision of high quality research training for Higher Degree Research students and early career researchers.

SoNM researchers work in partnership with State and Federal governments, Local Health Districts; private health services; non-government and community organisations and professional bodies, to pursue research activities that accord with local and national health priorities. Our industry-based research centres and groups work closely with service-users, service providers, managers and policy makers at the local, national and international level to transform practice and improve service users’ and staff experiences and outcomes.

The School has two primary research concentrations: Acute and Complex Care, and Women, Families and Children. We also collaborate with various research groups and industry partners both within and outside of Western Sydney University.

Our research spans these two main concentrations and includes information on finding a Higher Research Degree (HDR) supervisor if you are considering pursuing and HDR such as Masters, Research(MRes), Master of Philosophy or PhD. The School also offers an Honours program for those wishing to take their first step toward a career in research.
