Biography

Dr. Anil R. Ravindran is an ARC DECRA recipient and Lecturer in Mechanical and Advanced Manufacturing at Western Sydney University (WSU), Australian. Before joining WSU, he was a Lecturer and Research Fellow at University of Sydney (AMME – School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering), Deakin University (IFM) and RMIT University (School of Engineering) between 2021 to 2025. He earned his PhD in 2019 at RMIT University, where his research was on ‘Multi-scale toughening of composite structures’. 

Dr. Ravindran’s research is on advanced materials, composites, bio-mimicry, computational analysis, carbon fibre manufacturing, fracture mechanics, advanced manufacturing, polymers, aerospace design, structures, smart materials, additive manufacturing and nanomaterials branches towards a broad range of disciplines; of which include aerospace, automotive and renewable energy sector. By securing over $1.1 million in research funding in for research and teaching as chief and co-investigator, he had led and delivered various projects through the Australian Research Council, Small Business Innovation Research for Defence (SBIRD-DST), Office of Naval Research (ONR), Industry Linkage and ANSTO Grant Schemes. Dr. Ravindran’s research on advanced low-cost manufacturing, carbon fibre composites and aerospace structures have garnered significant recognition from academia, industry (Boeing, Airbus, Vestas, Carbon Revolution, Qinetiq, etc.) and Defence.

He published over 45 international publications, which include 30 Q1 journal articles and 15 conference proceedings for leading international conferences. He has been part of the organizing committee for various prestigious conferences which include ICCM (International Conference on Composite Materials), ACCM (Australasian Conference on Composite Materials) and SIF. Dr. Ravindran has generated significant impact and continuing in further translating research into commercial applications (TRL9) within the Defence and wind energy sector in meeting the Sovereign Capability and Net Zero Strategy 2050, respectively.
