Biography

Dr Arunima Kishore Das is an Associate Lecturer in Culture and Society at the School of Humanities and Communication Arts, Western Sydney University. Her teaching and research interests include critical theorisation of race, racism and multiculturalism, gendered space, migration, gender-based violence, feminism and digital media campaigns. Her doctoral thesis, completed from Western Sydney University, primarily documented the sexual harassment (SH) of women by critically examining women commuters’ SH narratives, NGO interventions and women activists’ contemporary autonomous digital media initiatives to address sexual harassment on public buses in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has strengthened her qualitative research expertise through research roles at leading development organisations in Bangladesh, including UNDP Bangladesh, as well as through her work as a research assistant on an ARC Discovery project and as a casual research officer at Western Sydney University. Dr Das has several publications on sexual harassment, women’s rights, feminist digital activism, public transport, and gendered livelihoods in Bangladesh, demonstrating her ability to disseminate research findings effectively. She has also been awarded competitive travel grants to present her research findings in the USA, England, Australia, and New Zealand.
