Personal profile
Biography
With over 17 years of international experience across the UK, Canada, Australia, the UAE, the EU, and the US, I am a legal scholar, practitioner, and consultant specializing in business, contract, commercial, banking, financial, insolvency, consumer, and FinTech law. My expertise across multiple legal systems provides a global perspective on complex financial and regulatory issues, contributing significantly to academia and industry.
I hold an LLB and an LLM from King's College London, and a PhD from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, under the supervision of Professor Benjamin Geva. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in financial and commercial law, particularly in payment systems, clearing and settlement mechanisms, financial regulation, and insolvency law.
As a researcher, I have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributed book chapters, and edited authoritative legal publications. I have presented at high-profile international conferences and engaged in policy discussions shaping financial law. My work covers Central Counterparties (CCPs), clearing and settlement systems, payment systems, consumer protection, financial regulation, and international financial markets. Additionally, I research FinTech, focusing on legal and regulatory challenges in payment systems, crypto-exchanges, crypto-assets, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), stablecoins, and AI regulation.
Beyond academia, I am an active member of the New York State Bar (USA) and the Law Society of New South Wales (Australia), strengthening my legal expertise. I have provided expert consulting services to financial institutions, regulators, judges, and policymakers globally, advising on financial regulation, compliance, risk management, and emerging technological trends. My extensive experience and legal knowledge allow me to offer strategic insights and innovative solutions to complex legal challenges.
I am dedicated to advancing financial regulation and legal innovation, ensuring regulatory frameworks remain agile, robust, and effective in a rapidly evolving digital economy. Additionally, I advocate for consumer protection and financial inclusion, promoting policies that enhance financial access while safeguarding consumer rights in an increasingly digital landscape.
