Christopher Turbill is an Associate Professor in the field of animal physiological ecology at the School of Science and affiliated with the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment at Western Sydney University. He gained a PhD from the University of New England in 2006 for his research thesis on Thermoregulatory Ecology of Tree-roosting Bats conducted under the supervision of Prof. Fritz Geiser, and undertook postdoctoral fellowships awarded by the Austrian Science Fund and the Australian Research Council (DECRA). Christopher has also been employed over several years as an ecologist with the NSW Government.
Christopher’s research aims to integrate thermal and metabolic physiology with behavioural ecology to understand how animals interact with their environment. His work has revealed the important ecological consequences of controlled variation in body temperature by mammals and birds and its links with metabolic energy expenditure, activity and the evolution of different life-history strategies. Christopher's research also seeks to understand and resolve conflicts between human-related environmental change and the ecological requirements of animals and conservation of their populations. Christopher has expertise in the biology of bats.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
