Research activity per year
Dr Edward Mariyani-Squire is an economics lecturer, academic program advisor, and international lead in the School of Business at Western Sydney University, where he teaches principles of economics, introductory microeconomic theory, and critical analysis.
He studied economics, political economy and psychology as an undergraduate, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours (Division 1) and was awarded the University Medal from The University of Sydney. He also received his PhD from The University of Sydney. His thesis, Opacity and Rhetoric: An Exegetical Analysis of Milton Friedman’s ‘The Methodology of Positive Economics’, won the History of Economic Thought Society of Australia prize for best thesis.
Edward’s research interests include the history and philosophy of economic methodology, heterodox economic theory, Islamic economics and finance, non-profit organisations, and the socio-economics of sport. His work has been published in Oxford Economic Papers, Journal of Economic Methodology, Journal of Australian Political Economy, Economic and Labour Relations Review, International Journal of Applied Economics and Econometrics, Australasian Journal of Economics Education, and Erasmus Journal for Philosophy and Economics.
Edward has given numerous public addresses at conferences, public meetings and high schools on a variety of topics, including federal budget policies and the macroeconomic outlook, cost-benefit analysis of climate change, Islamic economic and finance, and ethical dilemmas of AI.
He has received a Leadership Award (WSU School of Business, 2020) and an Excellence in Teaching Award (WSU School of Business, 2005).
Edward is a member of the Economic Society of Australia, the History of Economic Thought Society of Australia, and the World Economics Association.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
