Farnaz is a senior lecturer at Western Sydney University, teaching in the Cyber Security and Behaviour program. Previously, she worked at the University of Sydney as an associate lecturer in the School of Computer Science. Before joining academia, she worked in various roles at IBM China.
Her primary teaching and research interests include Cybersecurity, Networking and Distributed Systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), AI and Machine learning and Data Science. She is particularly interested in using machine learning techniques to analyse big data from IoT devices, focusing on data from water monitoring systems and healthcare applications. She is also interested in analysing different intelligent systems' security and usability aspects from technical and behavioural perspectives.
I am a Cybersecurity researcher with a special focus on network and communication technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Usable Security, Technology for development and Web and software systems. My current research interest involves various aspects of Cybersecurity, Internet of Things, Data Science, Cybercrime, and Human Factors in Cybersecurity. I am particularly interested in using AI techniques to analyze security, privacy and usability aspects of the Internet of Things and sensor devices, focusing on data from smart environments, agriculture, water monitoring systems, and healthcare applications.
Some of the projects I am currently working on:
