Biography
Gladis Kabil is a clinician researcher and her PhD explored the facilitators and barriers of intravenous fluid administration in patients with sepsis in emergency departments. As a practicing emergency nurse, Gladis continues to work on improving sepsis care. She leads a team of clinicians from several local health districts who are driven to translate evidence-based care. The team is currently working on the - Systematic approach for early recognition and treatment of sepsis in emergency departments (The SAFETY project). This program of research includes quantitative and qualitative exploration of barriers to recognition of sepsis at triage; evaluating the use of Artificial Intelligence screening tools developed to recognise patients with risk of developing sepsis while in emergency department waiting rooms; and co-designing interventions to implement across emergency departments to improve timely recognition and management of sepsis. Gladis also co-directs the Critical Care Research in Collaboration and Evidence Translation (CCRiCET) group which is a core initiative to create collaboration between clinicians and academics with research expertise from Emergency, Intensive care services, and Trauma care.
Gladis has been a registered nurse since 2006 across various settings including community health, medical and surgical wards and in emergency departments both in Australia and overseas. She works in emergency department in Australia for over 15years.
She has expertise in conducting mixed method studies, quantitative prospective and retrospective studies. Gladis is currently supervising three PhD candidates and an Honours candidate in nursing.
