Biography

Dr Jason Donnelly is a leading Australian legal scholar, barrister, and academic with expertise in administrative and migration law. He holds a PhD from UNSW and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Western Sydney University, where he received the University Medal. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University. 

Admitted to the Bar in 2011, Dr Donnelly has acted in numerous high-profile cases before the Federal and High Courts. He has served as a researcher to the Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG and as Tipstaff to Justice Peter McClellan AM QC. Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer at Western Sydney University and a Barrister. 

Dr Donnelly has authored numerous legal articles and books, including Douglas and Jones’s Administrative Law and Federal Administrative Law. His work on administrative decision-making and migration law has been widely cited.

He has contributed extensively to parliamentary inquiries, including reviews of the Migration Amendment Bill and administrative tribunal reforms. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered keynotes at major legal conferences.
