Biography
Dr Joan Nguyen, Associate Lecturer, Medical Sciences (Pathophysiology/Histology).
Joan holds a PhD from the School of Medicine at WSU (2022), where her research focused on the response properties of the inferior colliculus following unilateral noise-induced hearing loss, examining the effects of cholinergic enhancement and auditory training.
Joan graduated from the School of Science in 2016 with a Bachelor of Medical Science (Advanced), majoring in Anatomy and Physiology. She will be leaving a position as Head Scientist of Surgical Cut-up in the Department of Anatomical Histopathology at Laverty Pathology. In addition to her role in industry, she has extensive experience as a sessional academic in both the School of Medicine and the School of Science. Her teaching expertise includes problem-based learning and foundational anatomy in medicine.
Joan's practical knowledge gained from working with human specimens as a Senior Surgical Scientist in Anatomical Histopathology complements her teaching and supervision skills and knowledge.
