Biography
Dr Zhonglin (Jolin) Qu has been an associate lecturer in the School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences at Western Sydney University since 2024.
Dr Zhonglin (Jolin) Qu got her PhD from the School of Computer, Data & Mathematical Sciences at Western Sydney University in 2024. Her PhD thesis is: “Improving trust in genomic data analysis with explainable artificial intelligence”. She also got her MPhil degree with the thesis: “Using Machine Learning to Support Better and Intelligent Visualisation for Genomic Data” in 2019. Jolin’s research focuses on Visual Decision-making, Visual Analytics, Explainable AI, Genomic Data, Virtual Reality and Metaverse. She has published fifteen peer-reviewed papers, eight of which are first-author papers.
Zhonglin has taught university subjects since 2019. She is currently teaching the undergraduate subject Visual Analytics as the subject coordinator, lecturer, and tutor, and the business master's subject Visualisation as a tutor, lecturer, and coordinator. Zhonglin taught Data Visualisation as the subject coordinator, lecturer, and tutor at the University of Technology Sydney.
Zhonglin is passionate about organising research events. She was the chair of RCSC (Research Continuity Student Council) in 2021 and organised monthly webinars and GRS Research Week. She also created the first RCSC annual report and organised and hosted the successful second Western-wide HDR conference. She has been a research seminar coordinator of the School of Computer, Data & Mathematical Sciences since 2021. Zhonglin also served as the local chair for organising the AusDM 2022 conference (https://ausdm22.ausdm.org/index.html), the poster chair for HIKM2025 (https://hikm.org), the local chair for PacificVis 2026 (https://pacificvis2026.github.io/), and the doctoral consortium chair for AusDM 2025 (https://ausdm25.ausdm.org/).
