Biography
Julianne Abood is currently an Associate Research Fellow for ‘Across the Margins – Sexual health of LGBTQA+ people with disability’ research project at THRI, Western Sydney University. Julianne holds a Bachelor of Arts (anthropology/comparative sociology), Master (international relations), and PhD (social sciences). Julianne has extensive experience working with the Greater Western Sydney family and community services sector, supporting mainstream organisations to develop sustainable, inclusive, and accessible practices for diverse, disadvantaged, and marginalised communities. Julianne has worked across sectors and regional areas, in partnership with Government and non-Government organisations, community groups, and other key stakeholders in sector capacity building, health promotion, women’s health, mental health, and community engagement. The main focus of this work has been to improve access and inclusiveness to mainstream services for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities. Julianne’s main areas of interest are working to promote issues of social justice, gender equity, and human rights.
