Biography
Juliette Overland is Professor in the School of Law at Western Sydney University. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Law, and a PhD from the College of Law of the Australian National University, where she completed her thesis on the regulation of corporate liability for insider trading. Professor Overland has extensive practical experience as a corporate lawyer, having worked in leading Australian law firms prior to commencing her academic career.
Professor Overland is well-known for her work in corporate crime, corporate governance, and corporate law, and she is recognised as Australia’s leading authority on the regulation of insider trading, having published widely in this area. Her book, ‘Corporate Liability for Insider Trading’, was published by Routledge, and she regularly provides advice on insider trading and related issues, and has acted as an expert consultant in a number of insider trading cases. Professor Overland is the Company Law section editor for the Company and Securities Law Journal, and regularly participates in the law reform process.
Professor Overland is an enthusiastic and engaging teacher, combining her extensive practical experience with substantial theoretical knowledge of corporate and commercial law, and has received many teaching awards throughout her academic career.
Prior to joining the School of Law at Western Sydney University in 2024, Professor Overland held senior academic appointments at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University.
