Biography

Dr Keshav Raj Paudel is a pharmacologist and biomedical researcher specialising in inflammation biology, respiratory diseases, and translational pharmacology, including complementary and alternative medicines. His research integrates molecular pharmacology, immunology, and experimental therapeutics to identify novel therapeutic candidates such as small molecules, phytoceuticals, medicinal plant extract and their single compounds (pure and nanoformulation) and develop pharmacological interventions for inflammatory diseases, particularly chronic airway disorders.

Dr Paudel is currently a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at the NICM Health Research Institute and the School of Science at Western Sydney University, Australia, where he is a co-Lead of the Respiratory and Pharmaceutical Research Team along with Professor Kamal Dua, contributing to research on respiratory pharmacology, natural product therapeutics, and inflammatory disease mechanisms. 

Prior to joining Western Sydney University, Dr Paudel held an academic appointment as a Lecturer at the Faculty of Science, School of Life Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) 2019-2025, where he contributed to multiple funded research on impact of environmental pollutant (bushfire smoke, microplastic, urban particulate matter UPM2.5), pharmacology and drug delivery project, working in collaboration with Centenary Institute.

Dr Paudel obtained his PhD in Pharmacology, during which he developed strong expertise in experimental pharmacology, cellular and molecular biology, and preclinical disease models. Over the course of his career, he has established a strong international research profile through interdisciplinary collaborations across academia, healthcare, and biomedical research institutes. Dr Paudel’s research has made significant contributions to the understanding of inflammatory signalling pathways, oxidative stress, and immune modulation in respiratory diseases.

 

To date, Dr Paudel has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, including 5 books as an editor with over 8,200 citations, an h-index of 47, and an i10-index exceeding 150 (source: Google Scholar), reflecting the strong scientific impact of his work. His publications appear in leading international journals spanning pharmacology, immunology, toxicology, and environmental health sciences. His work has also attracted competitive research funding totalling over AUD 1.65 million as a chief investigator or co-investigator.

In recognition of the scientific impact of his research, Dr Paudel has been listed among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists (2023, 2024, 2025), based on global citation metrics compiled from Scopus data. His research outputs have contributed to advancing scientific knowledge in pharmacology and inflammatory disease mechanisms while supporting the development of new therapeutic strategies.

Dr Paudel actively collaborates with researchers across Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America and contributes to multidisciplinary research initiatives addressing global health challenges associated with inflammatory and respiratory diseases. In addition to his research activities, he is committed to mentoring postgraduate students and early-career researchers and contributing to the advancement of pharmacological sciences through research training and academic collaboration.

His research integrates pharmacology, immunology, and biomedical sciences to explore both synthetic and natural therapeutic agents.

Previous positions

Before joining the NICM Health Research Institute, Western Sydney University, Dr. Paudel served as a full-time Lecturer and senior researcher at the School of Life Sciences, University of Technology Sydney/Centenary Institute (2019-2025).

Prior to this, Dr. Paudel held a postdoctoral research position in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas, USA, where he worked on circadian rhythm and cancer biology (2018-2019).
