Dr Leo Zhang is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Western Sydney University, Australia, and Program Lead for undergraduate programs in Advanced Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronic and Materials Engineering. His research focuses on computational mechanics, fracture analysis, and additive manufacturing of advanced ceramics and composites. He combines finite element modelling, extended finite element methods, topology optimisation, and experimental validation to develop high-performance and damage-tolerant structures for engineering and biomedical applications.

Dr Zhang has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and secured significant competitive research funding, including an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA). His research contributes to the design and manufacture of defect-free ceramic structures, multi-material systems, and sustainable engineering materials.

He welcomes enquiries from prospective HDR students, academic collaborators, and industry partners interested in advanced manufacturing, additive manufacturing, computational mechanics, structural integrity, materials engineering, biomedical engineering, and biomechanics.
