Mr Louis Shabella

Louis is a registered paramedic and Associate Lecturer of Paramedicine at Western Sydney University. An alumnus of the University’s inaugural paramedicine cohort 2016, he has contributed to teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development for six years, preparing emerging paramedics for evidence-informed practice and fostering leadership capabilities within the profession. His teaching interests include paramedic provision of mental health care, clinical pathophysiology, clinical leadership and trauma. Where he combines theoretical foundations with practical insights to enhance students’ understanding and application of paramedicine principles.

Clinically, Louis is an Extended Care Paramedic with NSW Ambulance, where he applies advanced assessment and treatment strategies to optimize patient outcomes in diverse healthcare contexts. Over the last 2 years he has also served as an Extended Care Paramedic Educator, integrating frontline insights into formal educational frameworks and supporting the professional development of future paramedic specialists.

His research interests centre on clinical leadership, patient safety, and interdisciplinary clinical care. Having completed a Master of Research in Clinical Leadership, Louis brings a robust theoretical foundation to both his scholarly and applied work. In addition to his academic roles, he remains engaged in regulatory efforts within paramedicine, contributing to the development and maintenance of standards that guide the broader profession.
