Biography

Martin Roberts is an artist, art therapist, and academic. Originally from Dublin Ireland, he moved to Australia in 2002 where he has lived and worked since. Martin is associate lecturer in art therapy practice in the school of social sciences at Western Sydney University. He works with students to develop an understanding of intersectionality, challenge therapeutic discourse and promote social justice. Alongside this, Martin’s current clinical work is in private practice working with young people and adults. He uses a humanistic and integrative approach in in his therapeutic work with clients, focusing on understanding each person holistically. Martin is also an AZACATA approved supervisor. In addition to this and his teaching work, Martin is a practicing artist, regularly exhibiting his artwork in group and solo exhibitions. He uses creative research practices and arts-based methods within his art practice to explore his research interests in the environment and social justice.
