Biography

Dr. Md Abdul Alim joined the School of Engineering at Western Sydney University (WSU) as an Associate Lecturer in January 2021. Before this role, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Engineering from October 2018 while also serving as a part-time research professional at WSU’s Centre for Infrastructure Engineering.

Dr. Alim earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Bangladesh, in 2012, achieving the highest CGPA (3.95/4.00) in the department’s history. This outstanding achievement earned him gold medals from both the Prime Minister and President of Bangladesh. He was also recognized as the top scorer in Mechanical Engineering across Bangladesh that year.

Following graduation, he worked in the private sector in Bangladesh for seven months before joining an energy research group at the University of Malaya as a research assistant. In 2018, he completed his PhD in Materials Science from WSU’s School of Computing, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Dr. Alim has authored or co-authored over 60 scholarly publications spanning materials science, renewable energy, reflective coatings, defect chemistry, rainwater harvesting, and building-integrated photovoltaics. His research has garnered 3,500 citations, with an h-index of 24 on Google Scholar.

Beyond academic journals, Dr. Alim has contributed articles to renowned science news outlets, including The Conversation and PV Magazine. His pioneering work on self-temperature-controlling solar roof tiles was also featured in an interview on 2SER radio.

Dr. Alim has secured over $2 million in research grants from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and local industries. He is also the recipient of the prestigious ARC DECRA 2024 award.
