Dr Oya Gumuskaya is a senior lecturer at the Western Sydney University, School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Oya completed a master’s and a PhD in Surgical Nursing while developing her career from clinical experience to research and education in Australia and Turkiye, collaborating internationally in research, education, and nursing leadership. Having gained experience in the operating room and intensive care of cardiovascular surgery, she studied perioperative communication, perioperative patient experience and safety, and her passion for perioperative care excellence drove her research focus to implementation science and de-implementing unwarranted practices.
She is dedicated to her future research specifically on pain management, postoperative nausea and vomiting management, intraoperative team communication, and pre-operative preparation. She has collaborated in international studies including a number of health and education institutions.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
