Biography
Dr Prathyusha Sanagavarapu is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at Western Sydney University (WSU). As an experienced educator and interdisciplinary researcher, she is deeply committed to advancing quality education, children’s health, and the translation of research for community benefit. She has taught extensively in areas relating to children’s play, health, and wellbeing, and her innovative use of flipped‑learning pedagogies was recognised with a WSU Teaching Citation Award for Outstanding Contributions to Students’ Learning in 2018.
Dr Sanagavarapu’s research intersects education and health. She initiated the first‑of‑its‑kind study on the transition to school for children with food allergy, undertaken with industry partners, and has since expanded this work to establish the new concept and field of Children’s Food Allergy Literacy. Her projects have also explored mental health and adjustment among first‑year university students, refugee family settlement, children's oral health, and school transition experiences for children and families from diverse backgrounds. Her strong research track record is reflected in competitive grants, research awards, and a robust publication profile.
Additionally, Dr Sanagavarapu has contributed to school and university level leadership and governance, previously serving as School Disability Coordinator and currently leading the Doctor of Education (EdD) program. Passionate about community impact, she has co‑developed a range of practical resources for educators, families, and support workers —including videos and arts-based resources—to support children with food allergies starting school, promote refugee settlement, and enhance children’s food allergy literacy.
