Associate Professor Rosalind Bye has over 30 years’ experience as a health educator. She believes in the transformative experience of education, particularly for Western’s Faculty of Health students whose careers will make a difference in the lives of those they serve. Ros is currently the Deputy Dean (acting) in the School of Health Sciences, and previously the Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching. With a professional background as an occupational therapist, Ros co-founded Western’s successful Occupational Therapy program, which she later led for 14 years. She is a nationally recognised leader in occupational therapy education, and was the Chairperson of the Australian and New Zealand Council of Occupational Therapy Educators, the peak body representing all programs in Australia and NZ (2018-2020). Her national reputation underpins invitations to lead reviews of external educational programs and earnt recognition as a Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE for her contributions to education.
Her broader educational leadership within the School of Health Sciences has included roles as Chair/Deputy Chair of the School Academic Committee, Chair of the School of Health Sciences Work Plan Committee, member of the School Executive Committee, and acting Dean. Ros has extensive experience leading accreditation submissions within her own profession, as well as contributing to quality submissions across the numerous allied health programs. Her broad experience working collaboratively with external advisory committees is underpinned by a commitment to partnership in curriculum design and delivery. Ros is a member of Western’s Teaching Quality Framework Working Party, focussing on the development of standards that will support academics to enhance their teaching practice. Her collaborative leadership approach has been recognised as facilitating a positive team culture. Her varied roles at Western mean that Ros has developed skills in strategic educational governance, operational experience in delivering quality educational programs, and capabilities as a classroom teacher who is enthusiastic, empathetic, kind, and engaging.
