Biography
Rosemary Qummouh is a dedicated mental health social worker with over 20 years of experience in diverse settings, including community mental health and refugee services. She is a Lecturer in Social Work and the Field Education Advisor at the School of Social Sciences at Western Sydney University.
Her research focuses on the mental health of refugees, shining a light on the health of refugee women and the broader mental health challenges faced by displaced individuals. She is particularly interested in topics such as PTSD and transit migration, exploring the psychological impact of displacement and the often traumatic experiences encountered during migration. By employing a variety of research methodologies, she seeks to deepen understanding and implement best practices in mental health support tailored to these unique populations. Additionally, her work enriches the broader field of mental health research and social work practices by examining the impact of systemic factors and cultural contexts on mental well-being. Through her focus on these critical areas, she aims to contribute to the development of effective interventions for those affected by the complexities of forced migration.
Moreover, Rosemary is committed to empowering social work practitioners by highlighting the complexities of practice as they navigate the challenges of supporting vulnerable populations.
