Scott has a strong background in molecular biology, virology and immunology and a keen interest in chronic disease. Specifically, understanding how our immune system, while beneficial in so many cases, can prove harmful in the context of chronic infection or chronic exposure to alcohol, fat or other harmful stimuli. Scott's research is broad, but largely focuses on the liver and gut immune system in chronic disease. Current projects include:
1) Understanding and employing memory NK cells to combat chronic hepatitis B virus infection
2) Studying the role of peritoneal macrophages and responses to infection
3) Bacteriophage immunogenicity and subsequent innate immune responses
4) Hepatic zinc and the acute phase response to infection
