Dr. Suzanne Grant leads a clinically embedded, externally funded research program in integrative oncology and integrative medicine at Western Sydney University (WSU). Her work focuses on improving outcomes for people with cancer by combining evidence-based complementary therapies, whole-person models of care, and culturally responsive services. Her program spans clinical trials, real-world evidence, and health service implementation, with a strong commitment to equity in survivorship care.
Dr Grant co-established Western Sydney Integrative Health (WSIH), WSU's academic integrative medicine clinic, and leads its research program and long-term strategy. Under her leadership, WSU developed Australia's first academic integrative medicine longitudinal patient registry. Since 2025, Dr Grant has led WSU's strategic partnership with MyHealth, one of Australia's largest GP networks (100+ clinics; more than 3 million patients annually), with WSIH serving as their flagship integrative medicine site.
As Lead, Integrative Oncology, Dr Grant partners with Chris O'Brien Lifehouse — one of Sydney's major comprehensive cancer hospitals — to co-design, implement and evaluate supportive care and integrative oncology models of care within routine clinical services. This joint appointment enables clinical trials, implementation studies, and higher degree research placements.
Suzanne has been an advisor to the WHO since 2019, and a Listed Consultant to the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (since 2025).
Her research has informed clinical guidelines, including those of the WHO, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE, UK), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Competitive funding >$3M as named CI across MRFF, Cancer Australia, Cancer Institute NSW, WHO, and philanthropic sources. Research metrics include a Field-Weighted Citation Impact of 2.22, h-index of 20, and 55 peer-reviewed publications (88% in Q1 journals).
Dr Grant completed her PhD (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Bachelor of Applied Science (Traditional Chinese Medicine) at Western Sydney University. She has also undertaken advanced study in Chinese Medicine in Nanjing and Beijing, China.
She is an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Integrative Medicine and an Editorial Board Member for Integrative Cancer Therapies.
Dr Grant is an integrative oncology and TCIM research expert. She applies mixed-methods, evidence synthesis, and implementation science to develop, evaluate, and translate integrative oncology and supportive cancer care interventions into sustainable, equitable and accessible models of care.
Her research includes clinical research to assess TCIM interventions, including acupuncture, yoga, mindfulness, Chinese herbal medicine, multi-modal interventions and cancer survivorship programs, medicinal mushrooms, and psilocybin-assisted therapy. Suzanne combines qualitative and quantitative methodologies to ensure rigorous and comprehensive evaluation.
Community and stakeholder engagement is central to her research. She collaborates with patients, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to codesign culturally responsive and equitable supportive care cancer programs, particularly for culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Her research informs best practices and contributes to the long-term integration of TCIM approaches into oncology care.
