Biography

Dr Tanya Notley is Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts and a member of the Institute for Culture and Society. Her research examines media justice, media infrastructures, digital inclusion and media literacy. Tanya has 20 years of experience working with NGOs, government agencies, cultural institutions, and the United Nations on research informed media initiatives.

Tanya currently leads a national project that uses media literacy to address online misinformation through a collaboration with national public cultural institutions. She is also a Chief Investigator on a project designed to support the digital inclusion of families living in low income households. Tanya leads two longitudinal survey projects—the first examines adult media literacy and the second young people’s news literacy.

Tanya co-leads the Advancing Media Literacy Program at WSU and is a founding member of Australian Media Literacy Alliance (AMLA) which she co-chaired 2019-2024.
