Biography
Dr. Vahid Mousavi is a Researcher at the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering (CIE) at Western Sydney University, where he specialises in Geospatial Information Science (GIS), Digital Twin technologies, and intelligent infrastructure systems. With a strong background in Geomatics and Surveying Engineering, Dr. Mousavi integrates advanced geospatial data acquisition, spatial analytics, and artificial intelligence to address complex challenges in infrastructure monitoring and asset management. He is also a licensed drone pilot certified by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), actively employing UAV platforms for high-resolution geospatial data collection in structural health monitoring applications.
Dr. Mousavi has contributed to a range of interdisciplinary research projects focused on bridge and transport infrastructure, working closely with the Structural Engineering and Health Monitoring (SAHM) team at Western Sydney University. His work combines UAV photogrammetry, terrestrial laser scanning, and point cloud processing with machine learning and GeoAI approaches to develop scalable Digital Twin frameworks. These systems support data-driven decision-making, predictive maintenance, and lifecycle optimisation of infrastructure assets.
His research outputs have been published in leading Q1 journals, reflecting both academic impact and practical relevance. Dr. Mousavi has also been involved in collaborative research and consulting projects with industry partners, translating advanced sensing and geospatial technologies into operational solutions for infrastructure monitoring.
Currently, Dr. Mousavi’s research focuses on the development of AI-enabled Digital Twins and spatial data science frameworks for intelligent infrastructure systems. His work aims to enhance the resilience, efficiency, and sustainability of infrastructure networks through the integration of geospatial technologies, data-driven models, and decision support systems.
