Biography
Dr Waldo Fabian Garrido is an accomplished musician, producer, composer, and researcher based in Sydney, Australia. With a PhD in Contemporary Music Studies from Macquarie University, his career spans decades of creative work across genres and international borders. Dr Garrido is a versatile bassist, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and sound designer, known for his innovative approach to Latin music, jazz, world music, and electronic production.
His extensive music industry experience includes working with various international record companies, publishers, and production companies. He is currently signed with BMG Publishing to a worldwide deal, having previously been signed to Warner Chappell Music and Albert Music. He has contributed music to various film scores, including Bump, Submerge, Strange Planet, and the award-winning film Random 8. As a producer and recording artist, Dr Garrido has released over 20 albums and singles, collaborating with renowned musicians and labels worldwide. His work includes albums such as Dreaming in Colour, I’m Warning You, and Viaje a Chiloé, released through HIGHRESAUDIO in Berlin. He has also produced and remixed tracks for artists like Delta Goodrem, Disco Montego, and Robin Loau.
Dr Garrido recently recorded an album in Berlin with Tony Buck from The Necks, virtuoso German guitarist Olaf Rupp (John Zorn), and German pianist/sound artist Volker Meitz. His creative projects reflect a rich fusion of styles, influenced by his Chilean heritage, global musical collaborations, and his love for jazz, Latin music, and electronic music. His recent work includes producing Latin-inspired singles such as Fiesta Latina, Ahora Sí, and Salsa pa’ Goza, distributed internationally through Native Music UK and Electric Friends Germany.
He is also currently working on a jazz fusion album featuring Grammy-winning artists Frank Gambale, Alex Acuña, Randy Brecker, Benito Gonzalez (Kenny Garrett), Michael Rodriguez (Chick Corea), Mike Tucker (Arturo Sandoval), and Jumaane Smith (Michael Bublé), in addition to young virtuosos like Cristian Mendoza (Willy Colón) and Jorge Vera (Billy Cobham). The album also involves seven-time Grammy-winning producer/engineer Mauricio Guerrero (Beyoncé, Shakira, Neil Diamond). As a producer, Dr Garrido has collaborated extensively with Arabic musicians based in Berlin.
Dr Garrido has earned several prestigious awards, including the Research Impact Competition Winner (2020) from Western Sydney University’s School of Humanities and Communication Arts, the Elizabeth Wood Research Fellowship in Musicology, and an AIAS Visiting Fellowship at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies, Denmark. Dr. Garrido has performed at major international festivals and venues, including the Big Day Out, the Malaysian Grand Prix, the Festival of Sydney, Darling Harbour’s Viva Fiesta, and BOOM! International Festival of Percussion, in addition to various national and international TV appearances.
As a producer, academic, and creative practitioner, Dr Garrido continues to push boundaries, blending traditional influences with contemporary sounds in his music and research. His work bridges artistic practice and scholarly inquiry, exploring themes of migration, multiculturalism, and cultural psychology, creating art and knowledge that resonate globally.
