Biography

Dr Yingbin Feng is the Associate Professor of Quantity Surveying and the Director of Academic Program (Construction Management) at the School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment. Dr Feng is a member of Western Sydney University Professoriate Leadership Group. Dr Feng joined Western Sydney University in April 2011. He had a PhD degree awarded by the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Dr Feng conducts research in the built environment sector, applying economics, anthropology, behavioural psychology, systems engineering, information and data sciences to solve the problems of sustainability, supply chain, procurement, health and safety, productivity and effective organisations. He has published over 140 journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, research/industry reports and media articles with a Google Scholar h-index of 31 (3000+ citations). Dr Feng has multiple publications identified as ESI Highly Cited Papers. He was the winner of the Premier Award at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) International Innovation and Research Awards 2014. He was ranked as the World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists 2024 by Stanford University.

Dr Feng leads industry-driven research and is passionate about engaging with the industry and enabling research to transform industry practices. He is the Leader of the Sustainable Procurement research theme at the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc), Australia. Over the past 5 years, he has attracted research funds totaling over $1.5 million as the Lead Chief Investigator or Chief Investigator. He received a number of awards in recognition of his achievements in industry partnership and engagement: Winner of the 2023 SoEDBE Research Excellence Award for Mid-career Researcher of the Year, Winner of the 2022 SoEDBE Researcher Award for Researcher of the Year Through Industry Partnership, High Commendation Award (Team) at 2019 AIB NSW Professional Excellence in Building Awards in the Research, Development and Technology Category and Finalist for the WSU Research Impact Competition 2018. He is a member of Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)’s Responsible Products Advisory Group.

Dr Feng currently serves as the Joint Coordinator of The International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) Work Commission W065 Organisation and Management of Construction. He is a Council Member of the Chinese Research Institute of Construction Management (CRIOCM) and the Vice Chairman of the CRIOCM Youth Committee. He was the Co-Chair of the 2nd International Conference on Construction Project Management and Construction Engineering (iCCPMCE2024). He delivered a number of invited/keynote speeches at high profile international conferences and industry events. He served as an assessor for Australian Research Council (ARC) projects and the Theme-based Research Scheme proposal for Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong. He was appointed as the External Examiners of PhD Theses by the University of Auckland, Queensland University of Technology, Bond University, RMIT and Griffith University.
