Biography
Professor Yingbin Feng is Professor of Quantity Surveying and Head of Discipline, Building and Infrastructure in the School of Built Environment and Design at Western Sydney University. He holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Professor Feng conducts research in the built environment sector, applying economics, anthropology, behavioural psychology, systems engineering, information and data sciences to solve the problems of sustainability, supply chain, procurement, health and safety, productivity and effective organisations. He has published over 150 journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, research/industry reports, industry guidelines, and media articles. His work has achieved a Google Scholar h-index of 36 (4000+ citations) and includes multiple ESI Highly Cited Papers. He has received significant international recognition, including the Premier Award at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) International Innovation and Research Awards (2014), and he has been listed in Stanford/Elsevier's World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists (both career impact and single year impact).
Professor Feng leads industry-driven research and is passionate about engaging with the industry and enabling research to transform industry practices. He is the Leader of the Sustainable Procurement research theme at the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc), Australia. Since 2020, he has secured over $1.7 million in research funding as Lead Chief Investigator or Chief Investigator. He received a number of awards in recognition of his achievements in industry partnership and engagement: Winner of the 2025 AIB NSW Professional Excellence Award, Winner of the 2023 SoEDBE Research Excellence Award for Mid-career Researcher of the Year, Winner of the 2022 SoEDBE Researcher Award for Researcher of the Year Through Industry Partnership, High Commendation Award (Team) at 2019 AIB NSW Professional Excellence in Building Awards in the Research, Development and Technology Category and Finalist for the WSU Research Impact Competition 2018. He also serves as a member of Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)’s Responsible Products Advisory Group.
Professor Feng holds significant international service roles. He is Joint Coordinator of The International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) Work Commission W065 Organisation and Management of Construction. He serves as Co-Chairs of the 2nd International Conference on Construction Project Management and Construction Engineering (iCCPMCE2024) and the 31st International Symposium on Advancement of Construction Management and Real Estate (CRIOCM2026) and Category Chairs of CIB World Building Congress 2022 and CIB WBC 2025. He has served as assessors for the Australian Research Council (ARC) and Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, external examiners for PhD theses and assessors for academic promotions for several Australian and international universities.
