Biography
Associate Professor Yossi Buskila is a faculty member at the School of Medicine and a research fellow at the MARCS Institute. He completed his PhD in neurophysiology from Ben-Gurion University (ISRAEL) identifying cellular communication pathways in the brain and then joined the lab of Prof. Graham Ellis-Davies (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) as a postdoctoral research fellow to study the effect of β-amyloid on short- and long-term synaptic dynamics of cortical pyramidal neurons. In 2012, A/Prof Buskila joined the MARCS Institute and established the cellular neurophysiology laboratory in the School of Medicine at Western Sydney University.
A/Prof Buskila’s research focuses on neurophysiological processes in the brain, with emphasis on neuronal-astrocytic interactions during neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and motor neuron disease. His research group has continued interest in the processes that affect the onset and progression of neurodegeneration. Buskila is also passionate about the development of new research tools and the training of students to build the next generation of leaders in the field. A/Prof Buskila is also the co-founder and director of PAYO Scientific, a WSU spin-off company that build the BraincubatorTM.
