Abstract
Much of Angela Carter's short fiction takes the form of revisionist fairy tales. Arguing that traditional fairy tales served a patriarchal ideology by asserting patriarchal values and contributing in the discursive suppression of children(female children in particular), Carter produces a brand new kind of feminist fairy tales in which myths are debunked and new ways of female existence are depicted. Rewritten from a feminist perspective, traditional folklore in her hands takes on a sobering edge that is enough to help us rethink our age-old fantasies about male sexual supremacy.
