Abstract
Different from the Chinese counterparts, some of the English words and phrases have both complimentary and derogatory meanings in one. Because of this remarkable difference, translators need to have appropriate knowledge about the linguistic features and connotations of both source language and target language, as well as their socio-cultural contexts. Therefore it is of essential importance for translators to choose appropriate complimentary and derogatory wordings when engaged in English-Chinese translation.
