Abstract
Why does Spinoza never thematize equality, even though he is concerned to develop a democratic theory? I argue that in fact Spinoza implicitly develops a theory of equality, which is positioned against the Aristotelian conception of geometric equality that has dominated the Western philosophical tradition. In this paper, I highlight the major issues of Spinoza’s reconfiguration of the Aristotelian tradition.
