Abstract
To study and compare the combustion and smoke characteristics at different altitudes a set of n-heptane pool fire experiments were conducted in Lhasa and Hefei. The combustion and smoke parameters such as fuel mass loss flame temperature irradiance transmittance through smoke flame height and smoke concentration were measured. The experimental results show that with the increase of altitude burning rate per unit area average flame axis temperature radiation heat flux smoke emissivity carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide concentrations decrease.
