Abstract

This paper mainly deals with the morphological changes and the ulstrastructure in new leaves of Nymphoides indica(L.)Kuntze by the stress of Hg2+ pollution. With more treatment time or with higher cultural concentration, degree of the morphological injury is becoming more deeply. Distracted degree of ultrastructure in cells increases as the treated concentration rising. Firstly, the border of nucleous is unclear, chromatin cotracts(4 mg/L. Nuclear membrane dissolves a little, nucleoplasm appears very disorderly in 8 mg/L Hg 2+ solution. Finally, nuclear membrane disappears completely, nucleoplasm flows into the cytoplasm(16 mg/L. Chloroplasts change their shapes, so layers of granas and granas are crashed in 4 mg/L Hg 2+ polluted water. Plastid granas either swelled or disintegrates, layers of granas get disorderly in 8 mg/L solution. In 16 mg/L concentration, chloroplast envelopes get disrupted, plastoglobuli in the chloroplast flows into cytoplasm, layers of granas are entering the cytoplasm too. Crystal cells and huge starch grains can be seen clearly.
