Abstract
The development of English Medium Instruction (EMI) teaching in higher education of non-English speaking world is an action for educational internationalisation and a battle for the source of international student market. This model has developed in Europe in the last two to three decades. However, in Asian countries, it is still at its early exploratory stage and there is a lack of evidence-based model to follow. The research this paper reports is a project conducted by Western Sydney University, aimed for improvement of EMI teaching with the language limitation of non-English background teachers and students. It is based on the data of an EMI program for group of academic staff from a university in Taiwan. A five phase of blended EMI teaching model is proposed. This model is expected to provide insight for and to be examined through current practice of EMI programs in universities in Asia.
