Abstract
Commissioned sound installation for the Museum of Broken Relationships. A poignant immersive soundscape, a psychogeography of voices, music and sound recordings, a reiteration of things broken, that sets the backdrop and reflects on the breakdown and transformation of broken relationships. The work sonically explores the world of broken hearts, broken promises, healing and refracted personal trajectories symbolically through an eclectic collection and collision of audio “objects” that include intimate vocalisations, sonic metaphors, text, music, the sound of things breaking apart while the outside world continues on regardless. The installation uses an array of loudspeaker systems ranging from conventional loudspeakers to hyper-directional ultrasonic loudspeakers that creates a dynamic sonic typography (with specific listening zones) for the visitors of The Museum of Broken Relationships as they move from exhibit to exhibit. The work is dedicated to anyone who has experienced a little light of love in their lives that has now disappeared.
