    Abstract

![CDATA[A combined RANS/LES hybrid strategy was developed for flow field simulation to gauge the accuracy against wind tunnel observations. Flow across a hilly terrain was predicted by solving the RANS equations with the k-ε turbulence model of the whole field followed by a detailed LES model covering a smaller extent of interest. Predictions from CFD analyses were compared with observations in a 1:400 scale wind tunnel terrain model whereby mean flow field and turbulence parameters predicted in the RANS solutions were compared directly with the wind tunnel measurements. The information was then used to synthesize the flow fluctuations at the inlet of the detailed model for LES. The analysis results indicated reasonable agreements with wind tunnel measurements on mean flow field and turbulent intensity.]]
