    Abstract

Most organizations can manage reverse logistics operations strategically but very few of them have successfully streamlined material flow of the return process and information due to lack of integration within the overall process. This research aims at analysing complete reverse logistics process and developing a conceptual framework that will enable OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to manage product returns effectively and efficiently. The proposed framework incorporates main process elements at high level and enables integration of related systems across partners in reverse logistics supply chain for material and information flow. The proposed framework would enable organizations in the consumer electronic businesses to manage reverse logistics operations effectively through simultaneous and forward planning of all components/resources involved. Empirical study is carried out for testing of simultaneous planning of all components and resources using finite capacity of resources and forward planning of operations and materials, based on a selected case study from the consumer electronic industry. The empirical study shows that the proposed framework enhances reverse logistics process through shorter return process and provides flexibility of changes to the process and visibility at the operational level. It also provides the integration of process components across the supply chain systems involved in the reverse logistics. The research concludes that further research is required for developing planning and scheduling methods and tools to be implemented in a system environment.
