Abstract
Member states of the United Nations recognised several years ago that central to the promotion and protection of human rights is education. Australia was a leading sponsor for the United Nations' Decade of Human Rights Education which provided the mandate for the National Committee on Human Rights Education. Our task is to promote human rights education in all its forms and to all strata of society and where possible to be part of a concerted global effort in this exercise. Much remains to be done.
