    Abstract

![CDATA[The mean acquisition time is the most common performance measure for comparing search strategies in a direct sequence spread spectrum system. In this paper a general equation for mean acquisition time is developed for hybrid serial/parallel search strategies, using a circular state diagram approach. The simple serial-search strategy and the totally parallel search strategy arise as special cases of the hybrid search case. The equation has the potential to be used in many performance evaluation studies for direct sequence spread spectrum, and thus can be used as a tool to determine the best search strategy to minimise acquisition time in such systems.]]
