Abstract
João de Deus is a Brazilian spiritualist medium-healer who has been attracting a large number of foreign disciples. Since the early 2000s, João de Deus has been invited to conduct healing events in countries as diverse as Germany, the United States, New Zealand, Greece, and Peru, among others, and has visited some of these countries more than once. In this article, I analyze the process of globalization of this new religious movement, focusing in particular on Australia. I demonstrate that there is a growing transnational community of disciples living between the two countries, which has intensified the process of globalization of spiritualism, which until now had been promoted only by Brazilian immigrants. Finally, I analyze the establishment of a branch of João de Deus' center in Australia.
