Abstract
Paramatta Observatory was Australia's first private observatory, built in 1822 by Sir Thomas Brisbane, the sixth Governor of New South Wales. It quickly gained prominence in astronomical circles in Europe. Ragbir Bhathal traces the history of this observatory and the astronomers associated with it.
