Abstract
This paper focuses on problems concerning the extent of knowledge about Iron Age and/or Roman votive deposits and sanctuaries in the Po plain (very well known) and votive sites in the Alps and mountains (virtually unknown) in the Veneto. I identify the problems and barriers that occur when trying to establish an overall understanding of cult in the region in light of this bias. The paper touches on both methodological issues (biases in chance fine/excavation/survey) and the problematic cultural and spatial processes pertaining to place, cult and identity.
