A review of international green building designs

Abstract

Environmental protection has been highlighted as a major issue around the world. Green building can help people living in a sustainable environment. There are crucial necessities to compare designs which are used green building tools around the world. The comparison and evaluation will help integrate advantages as well as obliterate weaknesses of each tool. This paper reviews six international green buildings around the world. Their designs and characteristics with green building features are examined and compared under five green building design principles: (1) connecting with nature; (2) understanding place; (3) understanding natural processes; (4) understanding environmental impact; and (5) understanding people. It was found that no case study is featuring all six green building design principles although each case study has its own characteristics. This paper can provide insight on how to effectively and efficiently implementing green building around the world.
