Abstract
Truncating the infinite domain with an artificial boundary and then analysing the problem in its finite domain is the most common way of analysing a wave propagation problem in an unconfined domain. Simulating non reflective conditions at the artificial boundaries are thus crucial to the accuracy of the numerical solution be achieved with a finite element analysis. Different types of wave transmitting boundaries are used in practice, which consist of infinite elements or spring/dashpot combinations. This paper presents a comprehensive review of wave transmitting boundaries found in the literature. Performance of these wav e transmitting boundaries are investigated by simulating them using the finite element software ABAQUS/Implicit
