    Abstract

![CDATA[The purpose of this chapter is to evaluate the current scientific literature on the benefits of naturopathy and Western herbal medicine (WHM). Such an evaluation is important as it provides an understanding of the current state of the science, and the scientific literature, that underpin the two professions under review. Discussion about the risks of an intervention or therapy should not occur outside an understanding of its attendant benefits. The coupling of risks and benefits in a scientific setting provides an appropriate context in which to examine the value of interventions and therapies.]]
