A state-of-the-art review on the experimental investigations of bendable concrete

Abstract

Concrete has been an integral part of many construction projects. The cementitious matrix designed using polyvinyl alcohol fibres and jute fibres gave a face to high-performance, fibre reinforced composite called Bendable concrete. They are showcasing properties like high ductility and strain withstanding capacity, which enhances the ability of the composite to remain flexible. In this review paper, an experimental survey on various aspects of conventional and bendable concrete is carried out. Results from the slump test showed a slump value of 97.66 mm, which indicated that the concrete mix has medium workability. The compressive strength value of specimens with 0.5% Jute fibre was more as compared to 0.5% PVA fibre with 25.71 MPa on 7th day and 31.5 MPa on 28th day respectively. The ductility index value of the fibre-reinforced composite was 23.35% which is greater than conventional concrete. The test results of both 7th day and 28th day testing are highlighted with the help of bar graphs. A complimentary parametric comparison between conventional concrete and bendable concrete is given. Emerging from the laboratories, this engineered cementitious composite is readily adaptable for field construction and precast manufacturing.
